Kathy Colyer, Fine Artist & Photographer

Kathy Colyer, Fine Artist, Photographer, and Author, is a 30-something native of the Northern New Jersey suburbs of New York City. Creative since birth, she was named "Most Artistic" by her high school prior to her studies at William Paterson University of Wayne, NJ where she majored in Photography and Printmaking, and minored in Art History.

Despite growing up in the suburban shadow of The Big Apple, much of her early inspiration was drawn from her time spent out in nature, from family camping trips throughout the Catskills, Adirondacks, and Green Mountains, to the summers spent with her girl scout troop hiking and camping around New Jersey. This special connection to the planet helped develop a love for all of nature, including its creatures, which blossomed into a passion for conservation of land and the protection of animals. Now, proudly vegan, she aims to educate and inspire amongst the growing vegan community in her home state through her work with Vegan Garden State.

Having long been told she had the innate ability to help bring healing to others, she has spent recent years studying different energy healing modalities and researching the darkest parts of her own mind in the pursuit of personal growth and inner strength. Her gifts expanded greatly after a summer spent at The Omega Institute of Holistic Studies, when she became certified in Reiki (Level II) and Magical Awakening (Level II). She has also studied the teachings of the First Nations through taking the Good Medicine Society course, has studied with two different Sound Healers, and apprenticed under a well-known local energy healer. Currently, she is taking a Yoga Immersion Studies course at her local yoga studio, where she is a Karma Yogi, in order to more deeply integrate yoga and the yogic studies into her life.

Today, her art is still strongly inspired by nature, trees, animals, and most significantly, birds. Influenced strongly by spirit animals and their meanings, she has created dozens of feathers over the past year, each with its own meaning and healing power, intended to connect, inspire, heal, and soothe the viewer with their own personal message.

Kathy Colyer lives and creates in Lyndhurst, NJ with her two rescued cats, Noah and Peanut.
